We all know the term “meal prepping” and we know we’re supposed to do it but how do we prepare for a whole week of meals when we don’t even know what we want to eat for dinner? And what if we don’t have time to cook? Don’t stress, we’re here to guide you and show you how easy, quick and helpful it is.

You’re probably thinking, “Won’t my food go bad by the end of the week?” Well, yes it will. Nobody wants to open a container of soggy salad leaves, stinky chicken, or mushy vegetables. That’s why I like to prepare my food on Sundays and have my meals set for Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. Now, the amount of food/how many meals will depend on the person and their individual goals. Someone who is cutting is probably not going to be eating as much as someone who is bulking so let’s stick to picking your foods, cooking and setting a schedule that works for you.

I’m going to explain how I personally meal prep but everyone is different. I’m going to keep it generalized and let you tweak it as it fits your personal needs. First, let’s start with blocking out time to go to the grocery store. As obvious as that may sound, I always like to plan a time I’m going so I stay consistent and I’m not rushing around on Sunday grabbing whatever I can. I always have protein, carbs and vegetables on my list. I’ll use my meal prep list from last week for an example. I went to the grocery store at noon on Sunday and bought raw chicken breasts, bell peppers and dry white rice. Of course you can get as fancy as you want but I like to stick to my favorites and foods I know how to cook – and well.

Next, set another block of time to cook. We all have busy schedules, families, work obligations, etc. but you are going to be saving yourself so much time during the week that taking this time to cook will be worth it. I cook half of my chicken breasts and freeze the other half, throw my rice in the rice cooker (if you don’t have one, you should invest) and I usually put my vegetables in with my chicken and roast them. I’m always done in about 40 minutes or less, that’s all it takes.

After everything is finished cooking, I pack up my containers that will last me until Wednesday and voilà! I’m done. On Wednesday, I repeat the process. I put my frozen chicken in the fridge on Tuesday night and block out time for Wednesday evening to cook. Like I have said, I keep it simple but you can make and prep whatever you want. Not only has meal prepping saved me so much time during the week but it has tremendously helped me stick to eating well. I don’t have the temptation of getting takeout because I already have my meals ready to go. I know what is in the food I’m eating and I know it is going to help me reach my fitness goals.

Today let’s share with each other different and easy meal prep recipes. Post a picture of your finished meal prep or a video explaining what you cooked and drop the recipe!
